September 16, 2017

Sometimes the show must go on.

Sunee, Katie, and I left Hooper around noon.  I felt a little sick to my stomach at the thought of leaving.  It had become such a safe, comforting space.  I had enjoyed being with my mom and my siblings so much.

But I knew that I was needed at home.  This was the night of Emma's big sixteen-year-old birthday party.  When I finally rolled in at around 5:00, I was so grateful for how hard my family had worked in my absence.

We finished getting ready, I took a dip in the beautiful pool with my little kids, and then got out just in time for the party to get started.  Emma and I had cried, but we just wiped our tears, smiled really big and decided to have fun.

Lots of boys and girls came and had such a fun time swimming, playing volleyball, sitting by the fire, playing basketball, and just hanging around.  Emma seemed to be glowing with happiness.  She looked so cute and had such a great night.  I can't believe my little baby girl is sixteen years old!!!
That's Emma in the middle!

Of course I made them play my famous boy-girl keep-a-way game!!

Volleyball friends!!

A lot of kids had left already...but we love our birthday girl!

When it was all over, we all fell into bed.  It was good to have a distraction.  It was good to realize that life goes on.
