The other day I mentioned to Greg that I was taking a break from running, and I suggested that I might like turning my focus to golf. Well, that's all it took for Greg to take the day off and schedule a tee time for today. :)
We got up before the kids, got ready and headed on our way. I'm an okay golfer. Pretty terrible, actually. But I say I'm okay because I can actually do some decent things some of the time. Still, it's been a long time since I've swung a club. Therefore, I'm nervous, as usual. And praying we aren't paired up with anyone.
Greg got us a tee time at the Sand Hollow Golf Club. Neither of us had ever golfed here, and little did we know we were in for quite the treat. The October morning was cool and beautiful. The sun was shining in a clear blue sky. Everything seemed exciting and fun. We got situated and started right away. We did have partners to golf with, but to my great relief, it was an older couple. And the wife was a beginner. Phew!
Other than a swing-and-a-miss on my very first shot (I was SO nervous), I did pretty well. Greg's an amazing golfer! He says he's not, but I think he is. He drives it like a champ. He gets a lot of pars. He even got a birdie. And he always knows exactly what club we both should use and when. I love riding along in the cart with him, and it makes me so happy when I hit a good shot and see that he's proud of me. Best of all, I loved spending the whole day with him. We had such a great time.

We had been gone from home much longer than I thought we would. Our group played really slow golf, and the course was super difficult. I used to always wonder why Greg would search so long and hard for a missing ball when we had lots of extras in the bag. But now I'm the one hiking up and down through the desert landscape, running up sandy hills, poking under sagebrush, in hopes of finding my ball after a wild shot. I hit my ball of the course so many times--and I ALWAYS found it! It was my lucky Titleist 1. I would shout for joy when I found it half-buried in the red sand. I was so proud to still have that ball at the end of the day.
By the end of the round, my legs were starting to ache. They are still tired from the marathon, I guess. Greg and I hurried home to the kids. I guess we've entered a new era because they were all perfectly fine, perfectly fed, and Emma was in the backyard spraying them with the hose. The boys were in their swimsuits, running wildly around.
We just relaxed a bit and then had leftover beef stew for dinner. Greg heated the hot tub and we all had so much fun playing, splashing, and swimming together. Then we did haircuts, showers, jammies, and we watched "Spiderman Homecoming." It was such a wonderfully fun day.
