February 4, 2017

Saturday.  Whew...this day wore me out.

I was up at 6:45 to get the girls to their volleyball scrimmage, and the day just took off from there.  I had planned to stay at the scrimmage, but then talking with Greg and the girls and thinking about the BYU students and everything else we had, we decided that maybe I would just drop the girls off and come back home.  I really wanted to watch them play, though, so I worked out the breakfast and the whole morning so that I could stay and then take Julia early from volleyball so she could go to her first basketball game of the day.  Well, when I mentioned my plan on the way to the scrimmage, Emma got quite upset.  She begged me not to come.  She was worried that I would be the only parent.  She was worried that I would make her play badly.  She was just super frustrated with me.

Here I sat in the driver's seat, dressed and ready for the day, excited to watch my girls play (good or bad!), and here my daughter sat, begging me not to come.  I tried to argue all of her points, and then I just fell silent.  Emma knew I was upset, which made her upset.  But she got out of the car anyway and I wished them luck.  Then I drove home with tears running down my cheeks.  I still feel sad when I think of it.  Maneuvering life with all of these children is sometimes so much to handle.  It would be better if I didn't care so much, didn't love them so much, but I do.  And sometimes it hurts a little too.

I got to watch Julia play her border league game at 9:00 with Greg coaching and Austin play his All-Star Hoops game at 10:40 with Greg coaching.  It is always a joy to watch.  Then in the afternoon, we went to Julia's All-Star Hoops game against the boys.  SHE WAS AMAZING!  Julia is getting so tough on the court.  At one point, this really good boy on the other team stole the ball and raced down for a lay-up.  Julia chased him down the whole length of the court, caught him, and jumped up athletically alongside his lay-up, and completely blocked his shot, knocking him to the ground.  The dads on our side of the court went ballistic!  The crowd was screaming and cheering.  Julia just smiled this darling, bashful smile.  It was awesome.  The boy was a great player, so I hope he wasn't too worried about being shut down by a girl!  Julia played her heart out.  Greg, me, Emma, Lance, and my mom and dad cheered our hearts out!

Sweet, but tough!  Go, Julia!! Wearing the Jacobsen #24!
After that, we let Julia (who had now played one volleyball match and two full basketball games in one day!) choose what she wanted for dinner.  Cafe Rio was the order of the day.  We all came home and ate the yummy food while watching the BYU basketball game.
It was a great ending to a busy day.
