March 16, 2017

Thursday.  Today was the best kind of day.  It was the kind where the kids sat at the kitchen table playing with Perler beads for a few hours while I cleaned and worked, stopping occasionally to iron their creations.

It was the kind where Emma came up with a huge gymnastics competition in the backyard, complete with trampoline routines, swing routines, and gymnastic rings routines.  Then she had the kids all choose different songs for their performances.  They all spent hours outside practicing and perfecting their backyard routines.

It was the kind where it got hot in the afternoon, so the kids played in the hose.  Of course, Emma was the one soaking everybody and running the show.  The squeals of laughter mixed with the tunes on the outdoor speakers filtering into the house was like music to my ears.

It was the kind where the windows were open, the sun was shining brightly, and the kids came in for dinner with dirty hands, sweaty faces, and sun-kissed cheeks.  After dinner, they played outside again until it was dark.  I washed and folded laundry, cleaned, and packed a little for Hawaii.  Julia cut the bottom of her toes while working on her balance beam (aka the low rock wall surrounding the play area which also has a brick top and sharp edges for a barefooted gymnast!).

When it got dark, I brought the kids in, got them bathed and Greg helped me put them to bed.  Then it was more March Madness games for Greg.  He had hardly been able to keep working that day due to his sheer excitement over the games.  He calls this first day The Best Day of the Year.  And the good news is, my bracket is beating his.  Ha ha!

What a great day!
Boys in a bubble bath!!  Austin and Lance.
